Dr. Solomon and his staff would welcome every out of town patient for an in-person consultation, if they can travel especially for a pre-surgery appointment.

However, where it may not feasible to travel twice, Dr. Solomon’s office will arrange your virtual consultation with the surgeon. They will take care that your long distance consultation via phone and email is as effective as an in-office consultation.

Prior to your consultation, you will be required to send in your filled-up patient forms, medical history, and photographs of your areas of concern. Your patient coordinator at Dr. Solomon’s office will assist you these items, and will set up an appointment as per your convenience.

Scheduling Your Surgery

If you are satisfied with your consultation and are ready to move ahead with your plastic surgery, the patient coordinator will help you schedule a date of mutual convenience for your cosmetic surgery in Dallas, TX. If you have any questions or concerns remaining in your mind, feel free to ask for clarifications from your surgeon at this time.

Once the surgery date is fixed, you may have to undergo a few medical tests and routine blood work, depending on the type of procedure you have chosen and your general health status. You will also receive advance information from your patient coordinator about a few preparatory steps to ensure you have a safe and successful surgery.

Traveling for Your Surgery

You should make advance hotel reservations prior to your visit, and you may seek the assistance or guidance from your patient coordinator in this regard. Make sure that you arrive in Dallas at least a day ahead of your scheduled procedure so that you can meet Dr. Solomon and his staff and make yourself familiar with the surroundings.

On the surgery day, you should preferably have someone accompany you, who can safely drive you back to your hotel once the procedure is over. Your companion should ideally stay with you for 24 to 48 hours to support you physically as well as emotionally.

You should plan for approximately one week’s stay in Dallas for post-operative recovery in a discreet and comfortable setting. You will have access to Dr. Solomon’s team for any post-surgery concerns you may have at any time.

Breast Implant Removal After Rupture / Capsular Contracture

Breast Implant Removal After Rupture / Capsular Contracture | DallasBreast implant removal or explantation is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to extract the silicone or saline implants from your breast pocket to reverse the effects of breast augmentation. Breast implant removal can be a rather simple surgery in many cases, where your surgeon will place new incisions in the original scar lines in order to avoid any additional scarring.

However, implant you have suffered an implant rupture or capsular contracture, your breast implant removal surgery could be more complex. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthias Solomon provides safe and proven cosmetic and reconstructive procedures to patients in Dallas, Frisco, Sherman, Texas, and surrounding communities.

Surgical Planning for Implant Removal

The surgeon will evaluate your condition of implants and determine the cause of complication (rupture, capsular contracture or infection). Depending on the loss of skin elasticity in your breast tissue, your surgeon may recommend an additional breast lift plastic surgery along with implant removal to ensure that you have a firmer and youthful breast shape following the removal of implants.

In a few cases, fat transfer may be used to add natural looking fullness to your breasts following the implant removal. These additional procedures can usually be avoided if you choose breast implant replacement surgery. In this case, your surgeon will help you choose new implants of the most appropriate quality, size, shape and texture.

Surgical Procedure for Breast Implant Removal

Your surgeon may recommend the use of general anesthesia for your breast implant removal surgery. Following anesthesia, they will place incisions in the same location as your primary augmentation incisions to minimize scarring.

If you have chosen different sized implants for replacement, or the old incisions cannot be used for another reason, your surgeon will still place the new incisions in a discreet location. This could be beneath your breast fold or around the borders of the areola.

In case the old implants have ruptured or developed capsular contracture, your surgeon might decide to perform a total capsulectomy or a partial capsulectomy. These techniques involve the full or partial removal of the scar tissue (breast capsule) along with the implant. However, both the capsular tissue and the implant are removed individually through these techniques.

En Bloc Technique

If your breast capsule tissue is very thin or attached closely to the chest wall muscles, it may not be possible to perform an en bloc capsulectomy. But if this is not the case, your surgeon may decide to remove the implant and the breast capsule together as one unit.

In en bloc capsulectomy, your surgeon will leave the implant intact inside the breast capsule, and remove the entire capsule. The ideal behind this surgical technique is that the ruptured or damaged silicone implant can be removed without allowing the silicone gel to leak out. Therefore, this technique is often applied only where silicone implants are involved.

In any case, you should let your surgeon make the best medical decision about which technique is most appropriate for your implant removal or replacement. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Matthias Solomon receives patients from Dallas, Frisco, Sherman, Texas, and nearby areas for surgical and non-surgical procedures for the breast, body, and face.

How often do you need to replace breast implants?

How often do you need to replace breast implants? | Dallas Plastic SurgeryWomen seeking breast augmentation cosmetic surgery are often confused about how long their breast implants may last. With conflicting information available from different sources, it can get difficult to make the right decision about your surgery.

A dedicated breast surgeon will address this question during your initial consultation to help you make a well-informed choice. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthias Solomon provides safe and proven cosmetic and reconstructive procedures to patients in Dallas, Frisco, Sherman, Texas, and surrounding locations.

Breast Implants have No Fixed “Shelf Life”

At first, you should understand that breast implants do not come with an expiry date and there is no certain “shelf life” for these devices. However, implant manufacturers now mostly offer a lifetime warranty on breast implants because they are confident of the quality they are producing, and data shows a very high success rate of implants.

In a research report published in 2011, the FDA said that about 20 percent of breast augmentation patients will require breast implant removal or revision plastic surgery within their first 10 years of the procedure. You may draw some reassurance from this report that at least eight out of 10 women will not require a breast revision surgery for at least 10 years or more.

Expected Longevity of Implants

In general, you can expect your breast implants to last for anywhere from 10 to 20 years, or sometimes even more. Surgical techniques and implant qualities have also dramatically improved over the last decade, and chances are that longevity and success rate of implants as of today could be significantly better than even what the 2011 FDA report reflected.

However, as a conservative estimate, you should go ahead with your primary breast augmentation with the assumption that you might require breast implant removal or replacement surgery at least once in your lifetime. A committed surgeon will give you the right recommendations during your pre-operative consultation.

How Often do You Need Implant Reviews?

If you have chosen silicone implants, the FDA recommends that you should get an MRI test done after the first two years, and thereafter every three years. This is essential because in the rare event of a silicone implant rupture, you may not even notice the damage from outside because the thick silicone gel could remain intact inside the implant shell.

In case of saline implants, such periodic testing is not necessary because if a saline implant ruptures, the implant will quickly deflate and you will come to know about it from the visible change in breast shape.

Apart from these periodic exams for silicone implants, you do not need any special testing, maintenance or reviews for your breast implants as long as you have no complications. You may want to remove or replace your implants out of personal aesthetic choice, but clinically you have no such requirement unless there is a medical complication.
